Salt Creek Radio is a streaming radio station that focuses on the communities of Farmer City, Mansfield, & Bellflower. The purpose is to distribute information on all of the events happening in an effort to strengthen our communities.
Curt Homann came up with the concept of a community radio station in the summer of 2022, while looking for a way to distribute local information for the people in the Blue Ridge school district in a post Journal/radio station environment. He brought the concept to Brent Cordes, but due to busy schedules, the concept sat until the spring of 2023. Kurt Bozarth was brought in and the station began to take form.
Many decisions were made for programming, software, equipment, responsibilities, branding, marketing, and even the name. Test programming began running in September and by late October, the final product was ready to be revealed. The first rendition of Salt Creek Radio is ready to serve the community.
With the goal of distributing information, the Community Calendar is the anchor of the station. All the who, what, when, where, and sometimes why will be streaming 12 times per day.
In addition, longer form recorded interviews will take place in the early morning along with interview shorts throughout the day. If it's going on in our communities, you will hear about it.
All of this is intertwined with an adult contemporary mix of music from the 1960's through the 2020's. Over 1,000 songs with no fluff. Decades of the best songs ever recorded that will have you singing along.

if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Traditional radio stations with studios, transmitters, and broadcast frequencies are expensive. For that reason, past stations have had to have broad appeal outside our communities in order to remain solvent. By maintaining a low overhead, we can best serve our communities.
No. Unless some very economical means becomes available in the future. At this time, access is available via the internet only.
Not yet, but it is in development and will hopefully be available soon.
The station will be on 24 hours per day.
Listen, tell others, send information so we can redistribute it. If you are a local business, please play us in your establishment and take advantage of our extremely reasonable advertising packages. Just like our decision to focus on our communities, we're designed to make it easy for local businesses to announce their wares.
As an online station, the studio is wherever we have access to a computer. No traditional studio is necessary.
To start with, the Community Calendar will be updated weekly on Monday mornings. It will feature events from that Monday through the following Sunday.
Not initially at least. Thought has been put into possibly a state or national news source. This, like everything else, is subject to reevaluation in the future.
Soon. We're finishing up the permissions.
When you listen to a broadcast station, everybody hears the same thing at the same time. When you join a stream, you're hearing what is playing when your device connects. The longer a device is connected, the greater the chance that the signal will begin to lag behind a little. So when you log in on another device, it might be ahead by a few seconds. Basically, don't set your clock by when the Community Calendar starts at the top of the hour. It might be the top of the hour plus a few seconds.
Absolutely. So long as you're not expecting us to play them immediately. There is no full-time staff so inquiries and submissions are answered outside the time of our day jobs. Feedback is essential to our purpose and service to the community so we do hope to receive as much as possible.
Send an email to radio@saltcreekradio.com at least two weeks in advance and we will reach back to you.
